This case study features several NWEH representatives discussing the EPIC study into the connection between psoriasis and Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and the drivers, challenges and advantages of running a real-world clinical trial.
The EPIC study, delivered in partnership with NWEH, leveraged its FARSITE and ConneXon platforms to recruit a diverse patient population from primary care and collect high-quality real-world data efficiently, even through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. By combining expertise from gastroenterology, dermatology, and data science, the study identified a meaningful prevalence of IBD in patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis and demonstrated a scalable, patient-centric model for future trials. This approach not only improved recruitment and data integrity but also set a benchmark for collaboration between industry and the NHS to accelerate research and improve patient care.
